December 30, 2018

Chinese New Year, usually referred to as Spring Festival in China, begins on Tuesday, February 5th, 2019, in the sign of the Earth Pig.

In 2019, the Pig is associated with the Earthly Branch (地支—dì zhī) hài (亥), and the hours 9–11 p.m. In terms of yin and yang (阴阳—yīn yáng), the Pig is yin. In Chinese culture, Pigs are the symbol of wealth. Their chubby faces and big ears are signs of fortune as well.

Earth is an element that is believed to grant practicality and steadfastness to a sign, while the Pig is associated with a nature that is mostly loving but also somewhat mysterious. When allied with each other, the result is a character that is successful but also somewhat complex.

Pigs might not stand out in a crowd, but they are very realistic. Others may be all talk and no action, but Pigs are the opposite.

One of the most important traits that the Earth grants to the Pig sign is to ground it in practicality and common sense. The Earth Pig does not feel compelled to take on impossible tasks or be involved in extremely idealistic projects. This Pig has a fair sense of capability and is keen to search out the things in life that will lead to self-improvement. The Earth Pig has the sense to stay away from situations of confrontation as well as trouble and is always on the lookout to learn from practical experiences in life.

For all these reasons, the Earth Pig is likely to be extremely successful in the worldly sense but may not display any flamboyance or talk too much about it.

Despite the motivation to make good in life, the Earth Pig is in no rush to get to the top of the ladder, preferring instead to take one step at a time and proceed on the merits of proper planning and preparation rather than being driven by blind impulse and momentary inspiration. This is the result of an abundance of patience. The Earth Pig is more assured than others of reaching the final goal and experiencing success.

A dense element like Earth may make the Pig more passive than usual. So, in the absence of motivation, this sign could be in danger of sinking into lethargy and inertia. However, an ingrained sense of self-preservation makes such a likelihood extremely rare that the Earth Pig would, in all probability, adopt a sensible approach to life.

Even though the Earth element brings about a bent for practicality and materialism, it by no means cancels out the kind and compassionate nature that is basic to the Pig sign. The Earth Pig has a better idea of how to make things work to the advantage of others and can create opportunities that stand to benefit themselves and the people close to them.

Pigs are social butterflies with friends from all walks of life. They have a lot of support in both work and life. They have fortunate lives and can find happiness.

In general, astrologists say the Year of the Pig will be a quiet and rewarding one, bringing a renewed focus on family, close friends, and loved ones, as well as a renewal of old bonds and the creation of new ones. Good fortune, both personally and professionally, will come to those who are not afraid to be pig-headed in their pursuit of aims, but likewise to those who also understand the value of the mediating influences of intuition and altruism.

The Year of the Pig is the year of the selfless go-getter!

Happy New Year 2019!
